There are three Sayklly’s locations in Michigan, two in Escanaba and one in Marquette. I visited the Sayklly’s on Lincoln Road in Escanaba. Lincoln Road is the local name for US-2, so visiting this location will be most convenient for US-2 travelers.
Sayklly’s started as a small Escanaba grocery store in 1906. Since the beginning, Sayklly’s has served its candy and chocolates to an appreciative clientele. Now Sayklly’s operates as a confectionery and gift shop, where you can purchase hand-dipped chocolates, many different kinds of candies not made by Sayklly’s, or souvenirs from many different, well-known manufacturers. The gift shop features items by Department 56, Waterford, Ty, Swarovski, and Jelly Belly, just to name a few. However, the real draw of this shop is the candy and chocolate.
As I mentioned, Sayklly’s hand dips their own chocolates, and they offer quite a selection. They dip in white, milk, and dark chocolate, and some centers are available in all three coatings. Whether you’re in the mood for fudge, marshmallow, caramel, maple, orange, or something else, they are sure to have a chocolate that fits your taste. They also offer such treats as chocolate-covered pretzels, toffee, and peanut brittle, or the more unknown offerings of chocolate-covered potato chips or sea foam. If you’re in the mood for a chocolate bar, skip the mass-produced offering from the convenience store and stop into Sayklly’s for a Yooper Bar. This solid milk chocolate bar bears the outline of the Upper Peninsula, and is tasty evidence of Sayklly’s local pride. Sayklly’s also offers a wide range of sugar-free candy, if that better fits your dietary needs.
You can mail order from Sayklly’s if you are not going to be in Michigan anytime soon. Sayklly’s web site carries their full menu, and allows you to either customize your assortment, or to choose from one of their packaged options.
